I love the Wissahickon Art Program. That is the first thing that I think needs to be said. I love the way all of the kids work together, and accept each other. I love all of the things that are completely acceptable in the art room that could not and would not possibly be appreciated anywhere else in the school. But most of all I love the freedom that being a part of the art program gives me, to work on what I love, with such an amazing group of accepting people.
The art show, I thought, was phenomenal this year. But more than that, I thought that the art show was a good indicator as to how we all fit together. No two panels looked (completely and totally) exactly alike. Some were similar, some were drastically different. But all were accepted, none were looked down upon. They were all celebrated as forms of art, and that is what I love about the art program, collectively.
I’ve been a part of this program for as long as I can remember. Starting with Mrs. Amada and ending with Mr.(s) Williams and Miller, I loved every minute of my experience. I think that every person I met through the program shaped my art in a positive way, and I like to think the same is true of me, in respect to other people. And it is this system of give and take, and open mindedness that defines our art program, which is an entirely beautiful thing.
